    Im coming back into MMA after a long lay off where I did bodybuilding. Just curious why you think the overhead press is a good movement for martial arts. Also what do you think about layering in plyometrics into my weight training. I was experimenting with lateral medicine ball slams against the wall as well as ballistic bench press. Im reading Ultimate MMA Conditioning by Joel Jamieson as I prepare for a few weeks to get back into MMA practice. I've also brought my lift's rep ranges down from 10-20 to 3-8, with corresponding increase in weight of course. Any tips on cardio? LISS, HIIT or both? Im thinking both. Whats funny is that the effort from good lifting reminded me of the effort from wrestling which really reinvigorated my fire for fighting. Also I have the feeling that all the ab training I did for body building will help a lot. Same with spamming pullups. Im very excited to get back in there.

    Advanced stuff! I bet this sounds alien to the average person. 😅 How important would you say finding a rythym or flow goes into learning or developing new motor patterns? Also, what is your approach to counters and feints in those sequences? Thank you for the amazing content, as always. 🫡

    • @heatrick
      @heatrick 18 дней назад

      Thanks, glad it's helpful :) And great questions! Rhythm is a key part of developing a robust, skillful movement pattern - in the timing of sequenced muscle actions mentioned in this video, and both in chaining the technique in combination with others and from a basis of general footwork and positioning, etc. Practicing task variations helps you discover your own rhythm and flow. Practicing counters and feints along with the target "skill" practice is a great way to further increase both the practice randomness and skill variation. Once a motor pattern is robust enough not to become confused by introducing these extra elements, it's a great way to increase practice reps along with gaining enhanced carryover into a real-world transfer of the skill into sparring/fighting.

      Ok, watched this one. The distinction between the "acquisition phase" and the "retention phase" is crucial. Based on my experience, this pattern applies to learning musical instruments and studying in general. It would be good to do a bit of research about how this same principle applies to other types of learning.

    • @Deus1Vult
      @Deus1Vult 18 дней назад

      Your foot have a lot of bones and articulations so if one of them would be damaged the fight is over

    • @justsomebird4285
      @justsomebird4285 15 дней назад

      Of course you should hit with your shin and not your foot. But if you’re just trying to score and your kicks are not that powerful, kicking with the foot is actually something you can get away with because your foot is not at risk of enduring high amounts of pressure and force from your own kick. If you are kicking to do damage though, like break ribs, arms, completely take someone’s leg home with you that night, kicking with the foot is no longer an option like it is when kicking just to score because the force of your own kick will jeopardize your own foot. That being said, a damaging, more powerful and clean kick will score more than just a foot slap. If you can land it

    I find your videos so insightful and interesting. They really explain the details of Muay Thai which I find fascinating. I know from boxing that when I can see or sense the hit coming I can take the sting out of it but the unexpected shot just catches me and not just physically but psychologically too. Once I have been hit I really try and close that 'door' and re focus. Not always easy but it's part of the process to keep moving forward. As with any fight it is an 'ocean of motion' and you need to know where you want to land. Great video thank you and I wish you well.
